Albert Levy became famous as an architectural photographer. His main work consisted on recording the gilded age of American Architecture through Albert Levy's Architectural Photographic Series which comprises at least 36 albums of aproximately 40 pictures each with the most impressive buildings in the most relevant cities of the United States in the 1870's.
You can check in this website all the milestones he achieved as few on those days (none that I know):
- A catalogue with 2500 images
- Nowadays his work is hosted in the most relevant public art holders.
- He is referenced in many official entities and publications.
- He worked at the same time in the United States and in France.
- He was even a relevant manufacturer; competitor to George Eastman. See references (5), (6), (7), (8) and (9).
In my opinion, he is not as famous as he should be because he is a French photographer that developed his most relevant work in the United States. If he had developed his main work in France or were he born in the United States, I think this web wouldn't have been necessary.
